AI SEO in London: How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI
To get recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI search in London, make your site readable to both, then be specific about where and for whom you work. Allow OAI-SearchBot, claim a Google Business Profile, publish answer pages that name boroughs, stations and postcodes, and prove every claim. Finance firms must also follow FCA promotion rules.
- Google took 91.39% of UK search referrals in September 2026, with Bing at 6.08%, so Google AI features matter most.
- London has 32 boroughs plus the City, and buyers search by area, so one generic London page rarely wins.
- Over 300 languages are spoken in London, and 40.7% of residents were born outside the UK.
- Fake reviews are banned from 6 April 2025, and the CMA can fine up to 10% of global turnover.
- Chalk Labs has no published London results. Its only regional proof is Meru Trophy in Bengaluru, India.
How do Londoners use search and AI to find businesses?
Londoners search on Google first, and the UK has a lower Bing share than Canada. Statcounter recorded Google at 91.39% of UK search referrals in September 2026, with Bing at 6.08% 1. These are clicks to sites, not searches, and the data is national and excludes AI assistants 1.
A UK government survey gives a sense of AI habits, though it is older and not London-only. In July and August 2024, 60% of UK adults said they had used an AI chatbot in the past three months, and 23% used one at least weekly 9. We found no published figure for how many Londoners ask an AI assistant to name a local provider.
So treat London as a high-use, high-competition market with no local measurement of its own. You will need to track your own prompts to learn where you stand.

What do Google AI search and ChatGPT need from a London site?
Both need to reach and understand your pages, and neither needs a special file. Google says a page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, with no extra requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode 4. It lists the United Kingdom among the countries where both features run 23.
OpenAI says that OAI-SearchBot is the crawler that lets sites appear in ChatGPT search, and that a robots.txt change can take about 24 hours to apply 5. Check that your web host or security tool is not blocking it.
Our AI Crawler Checker tests this in a minute. For the full process, see how to get recommended by ChatGPT.
Is London one market or many?
For search, London is many markets, because buyers name an area. Greater London has 32 boroughs plus the City of London, and the City is the historic financial centre 6. Wikipedia reports Canary Wharf hosts the global headquarters of HSBC and Barclays 7.
A plumber in Croydon and an accountant in Canary Wharf do not compete for the same prompts. One broad page that says London on every line will lose to a competitor with a page for the actual area, station and service.
The same economy source says London has over 100 technology companies valued at $1 billion or more, citing a 2021 source 7. That tells you the city is crowded with well-funded competitors, especially in software and fintech. Early pages should therefore target narrow, specific questions.
How do London's languages change prompts?
English dominates, but a large minority of Londoners use other languages at home. The 2021 census shows English as the main language for 78.4% of London residents aged three and over, followed by Romanian at 1.9%, Spanish at 1.4%, Polish at 1.3% and Bengali at 1.2% 8. About 40.7% of residents were born outside the UK 8.
Wikipedia also notes that more than 300 languages are spoken in London, though that figure comes from a 2005 survey 6. So language demand varies sharply by service. A money-transfer firm, an immigration adviser or a tutoring centre may see Bengali or Polish queries. A commercial cleaner may see almost none.
Use your own enquiry log as the test. If a language appears in three of your last ten leads, publish key pages in it. Our guide to multi-language AI SEO shows how to set up the URLs. Otherwise write clear, plain English, which helps non-native readers and AI assistants alike.
What do finance and fintech firms need to get right in London?
They need pages that are accurate first and persuasive second, because finance is a high-stakes topic. The Financial Conduct Authority says all financial promotions must be clear, fair and not misleading, whatever the media 10. If a promotion misleads, the FCA says it can ask for changes, require firms to write to affected customers, warn or fine the firm, or ban the promotion 10.
That matters for AI search because an assistant may quote your page as if it were advice. Write every claim so it still reads fairly when lifted out of context. State who the product is for, the main risk and the date the page was last checked.
Our fintech guide goes deeper on proof and compliance wording. Have a qualified compliance reviewer approve finance pages before publishing. This page is not legal or financial advice.
- Product: Fixed-rate business savings account for UK limited companies.
- Who it is for: Companies with at least GBP 10,000 that will not need the money for 12 months.
- Main risk: You cannot withdraw early, and the rate is fixed even if market rates rise.
- Regulator: Name the authorised firm and its FCA number.
- Last reviewed: 20 October 2026 by a named compliance reviewer.
How should a London agency or professional firm stand out?
Stand out with specifics that a rival cannot copy: named sectors, fee ranges, process steps and named experts. London agencies, law firms and consultancies all use the same phrases, such as full-service or award-winning. An AI assistant has nothing to choose between them.
Prompts here often read like a shortlist request: which London firm is best for a Series A fintech. Answer with a page that sets neutral criteria first, then explains where you fit and where you do not. Our guide to choosing an AI SEO agency follows that approach.
Reviews carry weight, so run them honestly. The UK has banned fake reviews from 6 April 2025, including commissioning them 12. Ask real clients for feedback, publish the good and the mixed, and never pay for positive ratings.
Which UK rules apply to your claims, reviews and prices?
Three rules cover most London sites: the CAP Code, the consumer law on reviews and pricing, and FCA rules for finance. This is a summary, not legal advice.
The CAP Code is the rule book for non-broadcast advertising and it is enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority 11. Its misleading-advertising section covers substantiation, meaning evidence for your claims, and testimonials 11. Keep proof on file for every superlative.
Under the consumer regime that started on 6 April 2025, fake reviews are banned, and mandatory charges such as booking or delivery fees must be in the headline price 12. The CMA can fine up to 10% of global turnover 12. The same pages that win AI citations are the pages a regulator may read.
What should a London business publish first?
Publish the pages that match how Londoners phrase a need, starting with the service and the area you earn most from. Use the list below, and see our local business guide for Business Profile steps.
Only create an area page if the work is real there. Include the borough, the nearest station, the postcode district, a job you did and a price range.
- A page per core service with the answer in the first 40 to 70 words, a price range and a next step.
- A page per borough or district where you have an office, staff or repeat customers.
- A pricing page that shows the all-in cost, including mandatory fees.
- A credentials page naming regulators, memberships and registration numbers.
- An expert page for each named professional, with real qualifications.
What has Chalk Labs done in London?
Chalk Labs has not published any London results. Its published search results are a trophy shop in Bengaluru, India, and a personal-brand site, both in our case studies.
We would bring the same method: query research, answer pages, technical readiness and measurement. We have not tested FCA wording or London-specific review behaviour ourselves, and we do not guarantee rankings or citations. If you want Chalk Labs to look at your site, treat that as one option and compare it with others.
Rules and platforms that shape results
Rules to know
- FCA rules on financial promotions. All financial promotions must be clear, fair and not misleading in any media; the FCA can require changes, warn, fine or ban a promotion.10
- CAP Code (enforced by the ASA). The rule book for non-broadcast ads, sales promotions and direct marketing; it covers substantiation and testimonials.11
- Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act consumer regime. From 6 April 2025 fake reviews are banned and mandatory charges must be in the headline price; the CMA can fine up to 10% of global turnover.12
Platforms that matter here
- Google Business Profile: the main local listing, tied to a staffed address or a hidden service area
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: available in the United Kingdom 23
- ChatGPT search: surfaces sites that OAI-SearchBot can read 5
- Bing and Microsoft Copilot: about 6% of UK search referrals 1
- Checkatrade and Trustpilot: review sites that UK buyers often check for trades and services
- Professional registers such as the FCA Register and the Solicitors Regulation Authority register
What works in London
- Name the borough, the nearest station and the postcode district on each area page, for example E1 or SW1, and keep the format identical everywhere you list your address.
- Write finance pages with the product, the target customer, the main risk and a review date in the first paragraph 10.
- Collect reviews from real customers by sending the same neutral request to every client, and never offer payment for a positive one 12.
- Keep a proof file for every superlative claim, such as best, fastest or leading, in line with the CAP Code 11.
- Add a language version only where three of your last ten leads used that language, starting with the language your enquiry log shows 8.
- Create comparison pages for shortlist prompts, with neutral criteria first and your own fit second.
Mistakes to avoid
- Publishing one London page and expecting it to win prompts that name boroughs or stations.
- Using FCA-regulated product claims without a compliance review.
- Buying or incentivising positive reviews, which the UK now bans 12.
- Quoting a headline price that leaves out mandatory fees 12.
- Copying award-winning style claims with no evidence on file 11.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get my London business recommended by ChatGPT?
Let OAI-SearchBot read your site, then publish pages that answer the exact questions London buyers ask, naming your borough, services, prices and proof. OpenAI says the bot is what surfaces sites in ChatGPT search 5. Add real reviews and mentions from trade bodies or local press so independent sources agree with you.
Does Google show AI Overviews in the UK?
Do I need a page for each London borough?
Only for boroughs where you have real work, an office or repeat customers. Greater London has 32 boroughs plus the City 6, and writing 33 near-identical pages adds nothing. Start with your top two or three areas, add local jobs, prices and station names, and measure which ones bring enquiries.
Are fake reviews illegal in the UK?
Do FCA rules apply to my website content?
If you promote financial products, the FCA says every financial promotion must be clear, fair and not misleading, regardless of the media 10. That includes web pages and social posts. Ask a qualified compliance reviewer to approve finance pages. This is general information, not legal advice.
