Schema Generator (JSON-LD)

Build JSON-LD for seven common schema types. Fill in the form, watch the code update, then copy it into your page. It runs in your browser.

Test before you publish. Both tools let you paste code instead of a URL. Any < in your text is written as \u003c so it cannot close the script tag. It means the same thing.

Which types should I use?

Start from the page, not from the list of types. Ask what a visitor can see on the page, and mark up only that. Most pages need one or two types. Each block you copy is separate, so you can put several on one page.

  • OrganizationYour home page or About page. It names your business, your logo and your official profiles, so machines can tell who you are.
  • PersonAuthor and founder pages. It ties a name to a role and to profiles elsewhere, which helps show who wrote a page.
  • ArticleBlog posts, guides and news. It states the headline, the author and the dates.
  • BreadcrumbsAny page below the home page. It shows where the page sits in your site.
  • Local businessOne page per location. The address, phone number and hours must match the page and every other place you list them.
  • FAQOnly when the page shows real questions with answers you wrote. Google no longer shows the FAQ rich result in Search (since 7 May 2026), so add it for clarity and not for a special look in results.
  • HowToOnly for real step-by-step instructions shown on the page. Do not add it for a special look in search results either.

A sensible order

  1. Organization on the home page.
  2. Person on each author or founder page.
  3. Article and Breadcrumbs on every guide or post.
  4. Local business on location pages, if you have them.
  5. FAQ or HowTo only where the page already has that content.

Step by step guides: how to add FAQ schema, how to add HowTo schema and how to add Organization and Person schema. For the bigger picture, read what schema markup is, and whether it helps AI visibility.

How it works

  • Pick a type, then fill in the fields that apply to your page. Empty fields are left out of the code.
  • The code updates as you type and stays valid JSON the whole time. A short list tells you what is still needed.
  • Copy the code and paste it into the HTML of the page it describes. The <head> is the usual place, and the body also works. Many site builders have a custom code box for this.
  • Test it with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator before you publish. Both accept pasted code.
  • Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or saved.

What it cannot tell you

  • It does not know your page. It cannot check that the markup matches what visitors see, so you need to check that yourself.
  • It cannot tell you whether Google or an AI assistant will use the markup or show a rich result. Google no longer shows FAQ rich results in Search (since 7 May 2026).
  • The required and recommended labels are our reading of the minimum for useful markup. They are not a promise that a search engine will accept it. Run the two validators.
  • It covers the common fields of seven types. It does not build products, reviews, events or videos, and it skips the rarer fields of these types.

Questions

Does schema markup improve my rankings?

Not by itself. Structured data describes a page to machines. It can make a page eligible for some rich results, and it removes guesswork about who wrote a page or what a business is. Clear writing, crawlable pages and trustworthy sources still matter, and schema does not replace them.

Where do I paste the code?

Paste it into the HTML of the page it describes. The head section is the usual place, and the body also works. Many site builders and tag tools have a custom code box for one page or one template. Put Organization markup on your home page, and keep page-level types such as Article on their own pages.

Should I add FAQ or HowTo markup?

Only if the page really shows questions and answers, or steps, that visitors can read. Google no longer shows FAQ rich results in Search (since 7 May 2026), so do not add FAQ or HowTo markup to get a special look in search results. The markup still tells machines plainly what the page contains. The text in the markup must match the text on the page.

Do AI assistants read schema?

We cannot say how each assistant uses it, and they change often. Search engines use structured data to understand pages. We treat schema as a low-cost clarity signal and not as a way to get cited.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. The tool runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Chalk Labs or anyone else, and nothing is saved when you close the tab. Copy your code before you leave.
