AI SEO in Vietnam: how to get recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI search
To be recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI search in Vietnam, write your main pages in Vietnamese, with clear prices, scope and proof, and let OAI-SearchBot and Googlebot read them. Add English pages if foreign buyers are your target, as most export manufacturers need. Keep business details the same on your site, Google listing and Zalo, and follow the Personal Data Protection Law that took effect in January 2026.
- Google took 92.99% of Vietnamese search referrals in September 2026, and the local Coc Coc browser took 5.92%.
- Microsoft puts Vietnamese generative AI use at 27.9% of people aged 15 to 64 in June 2026, against 18.8% worldwide.
- Zalo had 78.3 million monthly users in late 2025, so it is where customers talk to you, but the page AI cites should live on your own site.
- Export manufacturers face two audiences: Vietnamese staff and buyers abroad. They need Vietnamese and English pages with different jobs.
- Chalk Labs has no published Vietnamese client result. Its only regional proof is Meru Trophy in Bengaluru, India.
How do people in Vietnam search and use AI?
They search on Google, and a small local share uses Coc Coc. In September 2026 Google held 92.99% of Vietnamese search referrals and Coc Coc held 5.92% 1. These shares count visits that arrived from a search engine, not searches typed, and they leave out AI assistants.
AI use is above the world average. Microsoft's AI Economy Institute reports that 27.9% of Vietnamese people aged 15 to 64 used a generative AI product in June 2026, up from 26.5% in March, against 18.8% worldwide 2. That counts any generative AI product, not ChatGPT alone.
Survey data points the same way. The e-Conomy SEA 2025 report from Google, Temasek and Bain says Vietnamese users rank first in Southeast Asia for AI engagement and trust 3. It is a Google-commissioned survey of online consumers, so it shows attitude, not how often people ask AI to find a supplier.

Microsoft estimates that 27.9% of Vietnamese people aged 15 to 64 used a generative AI product in June 2026, well above the 18.8% world figure 2. It counts any generative AI product, not ChatGPT alone.
Why should the main page be in Vietnamese?
Because most of your domestic buyers ask in Vietnamese, and an assistant matches the language of the question. Google's AI Overviews list Vietnam as a location and Vietnamese as a supported language 4. An English-only site gives a Vietnamese question little to match.
Write real Vietnamese, not a machine translation pasted over English. Google says fully translated pages are not treated as duplicates of the original, and that each language version should link back with reciprocal hreflang tags 5. See the multi-language guide for the tag format.
One practical point is tone marks. Some users type Vietnamese without accents. We have not measured how common this is, so test both forms of your key phrases.
What do Vietnamese export manufacturers need to publish?
They need English pages written for overseas buyers, and Vietnamese pages for local hiring and suppliers. Vietnam's exports reached about US$475 billion in 2025, according to the Wikipedia article on its economy, led by electronics, textiles, machinery and footwear 8. A buyer in Europe or the US compares many factories, often through an AI summary first.
AI answers favour specifics that a buyer can verify. Give capacity, minimum order, lead time, certifications held, and the ports and shipping terms you use. The table maps typical buyer prompts to the page that answers them.
| Buyer asks an AI | Page to publish | Facts to include |
|---|---|---|
| Who are reliable garment manufacturers in Vietnam? | Factory capability page | Monthly capacity, product types, certifications, audit dates |
| Vietnam vs China for furniture sourcing | Comparison page | Fair criteria, lead times, minimum order, where China wins |
| What is the MOQ for custom orders in Vietnam? | Minimum order page | Quantity bands, price breaks, sample cost and time |
| How long does shipping from Vietnam to Germany take? | Shipping terms page | Ports, Incoterms, typical transit times with a date |
What does a good bilingual answer block look like?
Put the same fact in the same position in both languages, and give each language its own URL. The example below shows the pattern for a furniture exporter. Replace every value with your real one.
- Link the two with reciprocal hreflang tags, using
viandencodes 5. - Keep numbers, units and certificate names identical across versions.
- Check each opening with the answer block checker.
- /en/oak-furniture-manufacturer-vietnam
- We make solid oak dining furniture in Binh Duong. Minimum order 200 pieces, production 45 to 60 days, FSC certified. Prices start at USD [your range] FOB Cat Lai.
- /vi/xuong-san-xuat-noi-that-go-soi
- Chúng tôi sản xuất nội thất gỗ sồi tại Bình Dương. Đơn hàng tối thiểu 200 sản phẩm, sản xuất 45 đến 60 ngày, có chứng nhận FSC. Giá từ [mức giá] USD FOB Cát Lái.
Which platforms and directories matter in Vietnam?
Start with Google Search, Google Maps and your own site, then add Zalo, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube. Coc Coc matters at the edges, at 5.92% of referrals 1. We found no independent ranking of Vietnamese directories by AI citation, so the order reflects reach 6, not measured influence.
For export firms, add the trade directories and association listings your buyers already use, plus a LinkedIn company page in English. Keep the name, address and phone identical everywhere.
What do the data law, anti-spam rules and localisation mean for you?
Vietnam's Personal Data Protection Law (Law 91/2025) and its guiding Decree 356 took effect on 1 January 2026 9. Consent is the main legal basis and must be clear, specific, verifiable and given for each purpose; silence is not consent 9. Fines reach 5% of prior-year revenue or VND 3 billion, whichever is higher, for cross-border transfer violations, once a sanctioning decree takes effect 9.
Marketing messages fall under the anti-spam Decree 91/2020. It bars marketing to numbers on the Do-Not-Call Register, limits messages to three per day, restricts calls to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and requires labels such as 'QC' and an opt-out 9. Separately, domestic websites and social networks must store user data on servers in Vietnam under Decree 147 9.
The source we read does not clearly state how the new law reaches a foreign firm without a local office, and a sanctioning decree was still pending 9. Ask a Vietnamese lawyer before you collect leads at scale. This page is not legal advice.
How does Vietnam differ from the global playbook?
Language is the biggest change. In the US playbook, English pages serve almost everyone. In Vietnam the domestic buyer expects Vietnamese, while the export buyer expects English, so one site often needs two content tracks with different facts.
The technical basics stay the same, with one Vietnam-specific trap. Exporters often run a Vietnamese site and a separate English site, and a robots rule set on one can leave the other blocked, so check both for OAI-SearchBot 10. Google adds no extra requirements beyond being indexed and snippet-eligible 11. The robots.txt guide has the steps.
For a Southeast Asian market where English leads, compare the Singapore page. For a market with a strong local search engine and a different messaging app, see the South Korea page.
What has Chalk Labs actually done in Vietnam?
Nothing we have published. Chalk Labs has no Vietnamese client case or result, and this page does not imply one. Our only published regional result is Meru Trophy, a trophy shop in Bengaluru, India, which reached 27,300 Google clicks and 2.3 million impressions in 16 months 12.
That is a local consumer shop, not a factory exporter. What transfers is the method: query research, answer pages, technical readiness and measurement. We do not guarantee rankings or citations.
Where should you start this month?
Decide who you serve, fix access, then publish and measure in four weeks.
- Week 1: decide whether your buyers are Vietnamese, foreign or both, and confirm robots.txt allows OAI-SearchBot and Googlebot.
- Week 2: align your name, address, phone and Zalo contact on your site and Google Business Profile.
- Week 3: publish five pages in the right language: price range, service scope, capability or product detail, comparison, and a data and privacy page.
- Week 4: run ten shortlist prompts in Vietnamese and ten in English, note the date, brands named and sources cited, and repeat monthly.
Rules and platforms that shape results
Rules to know
- Personal Data Protection Law (Law 91/2025) and Decree 356. In force from 1 January 2026. Consent must be clear, specific and verifiable; fines up to 5% of prior-year revenue or VND 3 billion for cross-border transfer breaches. Foreign reach is unclear in the source we read.9
- Anti-spam Decree 91/2020. No marketing to Do-Not-Call numbers, a limit of three messages a day, labelled ads and a working opt-out.9
- Data localisation (Decree 147 and the Cybersecurity Law). Domestic websites and social networks must store user data on servers in Vietnam; ask a local adviser about your setup.9
Platforms that matter here
- Google Search, Google Maps and Google Business Profile
- Zalo for customer conversations
- Facebook and TikTok for discovery
- Coc Coc browser and search
- ChatGPT search (reads sites through OAI-SearchBot)
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
- LinkedIn and trade directories for export buyers
What works in Vietnam
- Write the domestic page in natural Vietnamese and the export page in English, each with its own URL and reciprocal hreflang.
- Publish VND price ranges and what is included, instead of 'contact for price'.
- Put capacity, minimum order, lead time and certificates in a table on every export page.
- Repeat the same name, address and phone on Google Business Profile, your site and your Zalo contact.
- Add a short data and privacy page that names how you collect consent for the 2026 law.
- Ask each new lead which channel found you, with Zalo, Facebook, Google and AI answer as separate options.
Mistakes to avoid
- Pasting machine-translated Vietnamese over English pages.
- Hiding prices behind 'liên hệ' and giving AI nothing to compare.
- Assuming Zalo conversations are visible to AI assistants, which we did not test.
- Collecting leads without a verifiable, purpose-specific consent record.
- Using one export page for every country with only the destination changed.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Vietnamese pages to be recommended by ChatGPT in Vietnam?
Is Zalo enough to get found by AI search?
No. Zalo has 78.3 million monthly users 6, but we did not test whether AI assistants read it. Put prices, scope and proof on a public page of your own and use Zalo for follow-up conversations.
How common is AI use in Vietnam?
Microsoft estimates 27.9% of people aged 15 to 64 used a generative AI product in June 2026, against 18.8% worldwide 2. It is a broad measure of any such product, so it does not show how many people ask AI to find local suppliers.
Which law governs my website forms in Vietnam?
The Personal Data Protection Law (Law 91/2025) has applied since 1 January 2026 and requires clear, specific, verifiable consent 9. Anti-spam Decree 91/2020 covers marketing messages. Ask a Vietnamese lawyer to confirm how both apply to you.
Does Chalk Labs work with Vietnamese businesses?
We have no published Vietnamese client result. Our regional proof is Meru Trophy, a trophy shop in Bengaluru, India, with 27,300 Google clicks in 16 months 12. We do not guarantee rankings or AI citations.
