AI SEO in Turkey: How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI Search

The short answer

A business in Turkey gets recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI search by publishing native Turkish answer pages with prices in lira, a clear address and checkable proof, and by checking Yandex as well as Google, because Yandex held 25.19% of search referrals. Google needs no AI-specific markup 9. KVKK and e-message rules govern forms and marketing 56.

  • Yandex held 25.19% of search referrals in September 2026 against Google's 73.42%. Four African markets we checked show Yandex at 0.52% or less.
  • About 77.5 million Turks were online in late 2025, 88.3% of the population, and 78.4% lived in cities.
  • Generative AI use among working-age Turks was 18.9% in June 2026, close to the 18.8% world figure.
  • Turkish is the language that matters. Translated English pages rarely match how Turks phrase questions.
  • Turkish law requires advertisers to prove their claims and bans hidden advertising.

How big is the Turkish online audience?

It is large, urban and already highly connected. DataReportal counted 77.5 million internet users in Turkey in October 2025, a penetration of 88.3%, with about 10.3 million people offline 2. The population was 87.7 million, and 78.4% lived in urban areas 2.

Social media user identities were 62.3 million, or 70.9% of the population, and 80.4% of internet users used at least one platform 2. Mobile connections were 81.9 million, equal to 93.3% of the population 2. User numbers grew by only 0.2% in a year, so this market is mature 2.

A mature market means growth comes from winning share, not from new users. Your page has to be better than a competitor's page, because most buyers are already online.

Build local prompts for Turkey

Pick a business type and a place. Copy the prompts, then ask them in the AI assistants your buyers use and see who gets named.

Your 4 prompts

  • İstanbul en iyi diş hekimi
  • İstanbul diş hekimi fiyatları
  • İstanbul diş hekimi yorumları
  • İstanbul yakınında diş hekimi önerisi

Turkish uses suffixes for place names, such as 'İstanbul'da' and 'Ankara'da'. Test both bare and suffixed forms. These patterns are modelled, not observed, so confirm them with a native speaker and with autocomplete.

Does Yandex matter in Turkey?

Yes. It is the main reason a Turkish plan differs from most others. Statcounter recorded Google at 73.42% of search referrals in Turkey in September 2026 and Yandex at 25.19%, with Bing at only 0.71% 1. In Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Egypt, Statcounter puts Yandex at 0.52% or less 1.

We could not find a verified explanation for Yandex's share, so we do not guess at one. Statcounter measures referrals to sites in its network, not queries, and excludes AI assistants, so the true split among your buyers may differ 1.

Do three cheap things. Verify your site in Yandex Webmaster as well as Google Search Console. Check your server logs to see whether Yandex's crawler reaches your pages. Compare your results for your top ten Turkish queries in both engines. Skip Bing work in Turkey unless your own analytics shows Bing traffic.

How many people in Turkey use AI assistants?

About one in five working-age Turks used a generative AI product in mid-2026. Microsoft's AI Economy Institute put Turkey at 18.9% in June 2026, up from 17.4% in the first quarter, close to the 18.8% worldwide figure 3.

The figure covers people aged 15 to 64 and any generative AI product, so it is not a ChatGPT count and does not show who asks for local providers 3. We found no verified Turkish figure for assistant-driven visits to business sites.

Since the audience is online and curious about AI, assistants are worth tracking. But search referrals still dominate, so keep your Google and Yandex pages as strong as your AI-facing pages.

How should you write Turkish pages?

Write natively in Turkish, then check how real buyers phrase the question. Turkish adds endings to place names, so 'İstanbul'da diş hekimi' and 'İstanbul diş hekimi' are different strings that buyers use. Use the form your autocomplete shows and include both naturally in headings and body text.

Mind the letters. Turkish has the dotted İ and dotless ı, plus ş, ğ and ç. Text that drops them looks careless and can match fewer queries. Use full Turkish characters in titles and body text, and keep URLs simple and consistent.

Each page should stay in one language on its own URL. If you also sell to foreign buyers, add an English page and link the two versions, as Google advises 10. Show prices in Turkish lira with tax wording that a Turkish accountant would recognise.

Turkish prompts to test, by category (modelled, not observed)
  • İstanbul'da en iyi diş hekimi hangisi
  • Kadıköy emlak ofisi yorumları
  • Ankara'da avukat ücretleri ne kadar
  • İzmir oto servis fiyatları
  • ihracat yapan KOBİ için muhasebe firması önerisi

What role do Turkish marketplaces play?

For product sellers, marketplaces are where many buyers start, so your listings feed your online footprint. Trendyol, an Istanbul-based platform founded in 2010, had Alibaba as its largest shareholder with about 70% as of 2024, according to Wikipedia 7. Hepsiburada has operated since 2000, began trading on Nasdaq on 1 July 2021, and reported 12 million active customers and 101,500 active merchants alongside its 2023 report 8.

We have no verified data on how often AI assistants cite marketplace pages in Turkey. The practical rule holds anyway: keep product names, specifications, prices and photos consistent between your marketplace listing and your own site, so no source contradicts another.

If you sell services, the equivalent is your Google Business Profile, local directories and review pages. Make name, address and phone identical everywhere.

What does KVKK require of your forms?

It requires you to tell people what you do with their data and to have a lawful basis. Law No. 6698 was adopted on 24 March 2016 and published in the Official Gazette on 7 April 2016 as No. 29677 5. Under Article 10, at collection you must tell people who you are, why you process their data, who may receive it, how and on what legal basis you collect it, and what rights they have 5.

DLA Piper adds that controllers must generally enrol in the VERBIS registry, with exceptions for certain small controllers, and that non-resident controllers register through a Turkish representative 6. Explicit consent is one of several lawful grounds. A cross-border transfer regulation was published in the Official Gazette on 10 July 2024 6.

Fines were listed up to TRY 13,620,402 using 2023 figures, which have likely been revalued since 6. This is general information, not legal advice. Have a Turkish lawyer review your notice.

What rules apply to marketing messages and ads?

Marketing messages need prior opt-in and registration. DLA Piper says commercial messages under the Electronic Trade Law generally require opt-in consent, that opt-ins and opt-outs must be recorded in the IYS system and acted on within 3 business days, and that unregistered opt-ins are invalid 6.

Advertising claims carry a burden of proof. Article 61 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 6502 says commercial advertising must be accurate and honest, bans advertising that deceives consumers, bans covert advertising, allows comparative advertising of like-for-like goods or services, and makes advertisers responsible for proving their claims 4. Article 63 creates an Advertising Board that can order corrections, fines or suspensions 4.

For AI visibility, the lesson is helpful. Put your evidence on the page next to the claim. A claim with a visible source is easier for a person, a regulator and an assistant to trust.

Where does Istanbul fit, and how do you start?

Start in Istanbul if you serve consumers or companies there. Wikipedia reports 15,754,053 residents at 31 December 2025, about 18% of Turkey's population, and says the city accounts for about 30% of the economy 11. Write separate pages for the districts you really serve, with local directions and details.

Then keep it small. Pick one service, write ten Turkish pages that each answer one buyer question, and verify Google and Yandex tools. Use the question research guide and the local business guide, and set up tracking with the prompt list builder.

Rules and platforms that shape results

Rules to know

  • KVKK, Law on the Protection of Personal Data No. 6698. Published 7 April 2016. Article 10 requires telling people who you are, why you process data, who receives it, the legal basis and their rights. VERBIS registration applies to many controllers, with small-controller exceptions.5
  • Consumer Protection Law No. 6502, Articles 61 and 63. Advertising must be accurate and honest, covert advertising is banned, advertisers must prove claims, and the Advertising Board can order corrections, fines or suspension.4
  • Electronic Trade Law message rules. Commercial messages generally need prior opt-in, recorded in the IYS system, with opt-outs actioned within 3 business days (DLA Piper summary).6

Platforms that matter here

  • Google Search, AI Overviews and AI Mode
  • Yandex Search
  • ChatGPT and other assistants
  • Trendyol and Hepsiburada marketplaces
  • Google Business Profile and Maps
  • Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook

What works in Turkey

  • Write native Turkish pages with correct characters and test both 'İstanbul'da' and 'İstanbul' phrasing.
  • Verify Yandex Webmaster alongside Search Console, and check that Yandex's crawler reaches your pages.
  • Keep marketplace listings, Business Profile and your site consistent on name, address, price and specifications.
  • Put evidence next to every claim, because advertisers must prove them.
  • Record opt-in and opt-out for every marketing message, and add a Turkish notice to each form.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Ignoring Yandex because a global playbook says Google and Bing.
  • Publishing machine-translated pages with missing Turkish letters.
  • Sending marketing messages without recorded opt-in.
  • Making comparative or superlative claims with no evidence on the page.

Frequently asked questions

How can a business in Turkey get recommended by ChatGPT?

Publish native Turkish answer pages stating the service, price in lira, location and proof, and keep your details identical across your site, Google Business Profile and marketplaces. No one can promise a recommendation because assistants are third-party systems, but clear, evidenced pages give them something to quote.

Is Yandex still important for SEO in Turkey?

Yes. Statcounter recorded Yandex at 25.19% of search referrals in Turkey in September 2026, against 73.42% for Google 1. The data excludes AI assistants, and we found no reason for the gap, so check your own analytics and verify Yandex Webmaster.

Do I need to register my business in VERBIS?

Many controllers must. DLA Piper says controllers generally have to enrol in the VERBIS registry, with exceptions for certain small controllers, and that non-resident controllers register through a Turkish representative 6. Confirm your situation with a Turkish lawyer, since the thresholds are revalued over time.

Can I send marketing SMS or email in Turkey without consent?

Generally no. DLA Piper reports that commercial messages need prior opt-in, recorded in the IYS system, and that opt-outs must be actioned within 3 business days 6. Messages to merchants and craftsmen are treated differently but still need registration. Check the details with a Turkish lawyer.
