AI SEO in Saudi Arabia: How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI
To be recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI search in Saudi Arabia, publish answer-first pages in Arabic, and in English where your buyers use it. Let OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot and Googlebot read your site, keep your business name, address and phone identical everywhere, and follow the Personal Data Protection Law on every form. Google needs no special AI tag, so strong classic SEO is the base.
- Microsoft puts Saudi generative AI use at 31.4% of people aged 15 to 64 in June 2026, up from 29.4% in March.
- Google gave 94.46% of Saudi search referrals in September 2026, so classic Google SEO still feeds its AI answers.
- Google lists Saudi Arabia, Arabic and English as supported for AI Overviews. No public data shows which language buyers type prompts in.
- The Personal Data Protection Law has applied since September 2023, with a compliance deadline of September 2024.
- Chalk Labs has published no Saudi client result. Its only regional result is Meru Trophy in Bengaluru, India.
How do people in Saudi Arabia find businesses with search and AI?
They use Google first and AI tools in growing numbers, so a Saudi business needs to be visible in both. DataReportal counted 34.4 million internet users in October 2025, a 99.0% penetration rate that DataReportal caps for every country 2. It also counted 48.7 million mobile connections, so plan for phones first 2.
Google supplied 94.46% of search referrals in September 2026, with Bing at 3.75% and Yandex at 1.06% 1. StatCounter counts clicks from results pages to sites that carry its code. It does not count searches, and AI assistants are not in its table.
AI use is rising fast. Microsoft's AI Economy Institute reports that 31.4% of Saudi residents aged 15 to 64 had used a generative AI product by June 2026, up from 29.4% in March 3. Saudi Arabia climbed from 30th to 25th place in the Microsoft ranking, the biggest rank gain that quarter 3. The UAE sits first at 73.3% and the worldwide figure is 18.8%, so Saudi use is above average but far from the top 3.

Should your pages be in Arabic, English or both?
Write in Arabic for any service Saudi residents buy, and add English where expatriates or business travellers are part of your market. Google's AI Overviews support both Arabic and English, and Saudi Arabia is on Google's list of places where the feature is available 6. Foreign-born residents are roughly 40% of the population, per the Wikipedia article on the country, so some of your buyers may prefer English or another language 11.
Keep each page in one language, and link the versions with hreflang. Google says every language version must list itself and all the others, and that the links must point both ways or they are ignored 8. Google also says translated pages are not duplicates, as long as the main content is translated and not just the menu 8.
| Buyer writes | Example | What to publish |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Standard Arabic in Arabic script | افضل عيادة اسنان في الرياض | A full Arabic page with the answer in the first 40 to 75 words |
| English | best dental clinic in Riyadh | An English page with the same facts, linked by hreflang |
| Arabic in Latin letters | afdal eyada asnan fi riyadh | No separate page. Use the Arabic and English names in headings and image text |
| Mixed Arabic and English | dental clinic الرياض price | Use both the Arabic place name and the English one in the page text |
What do Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT need from a Saudi site?
They need pages that a crawler can fetch and a person can quote. Google says there are no extra technical requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode: a page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet 7. Google also advises that structured data match the visible text on the page 7.
For ChatGPT, OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot surfaces sites in ChatGPT search results and recommends allowing it in robots.txt 9. Sites that opt out will not appear in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still show as plain links. Changes can take about 24 hours to apply 9. Our guide to allowing AI crawlers in robots.txt has the exact lines, and the free AI Crawler Checker tests your site.
Check two risks on a bilingual site. First, a language pop-up or a redirect by browser language can hide the Arabic pages from crawlers, so give each language its own URL. Second, make sure your Arabic is real text and not an image of text.
Which platforms and directories should you claim first?
Claim the places where your name, address and phone number already appear, then make them match. For most Saudi service businesses that means a Google Business Profile with an Arabic and an English name, plus your own site. AI engines compare what different sources say about you, so a mismatch weakens trust.
Add the details your own buyers check: commercial registration name, branch city, opening hours in Arabic and English, and a WhatsApp or phone number. Then look at the review and listing sites that appear when you search your own category in Arabic. Those are the sites a model is most likely to read.
- Google Business Profile with both language names and the same address as your website.
- Industry directories and association listings that already rank for your category in Arabic.
- Review sites your buyers use, with replies written in the reviewer's language.
- Your social profiles, linked from the site and using the same business name.
What do Saudi data and marketing rules mean for your pages?
Treat every enquiry form, newsletter box and tracking tool as a personal-data process under the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL). It was issued by Royal Decree M/19, amended by M/148, and took effect on 14 September 2023, with a compliance deadline of 14 September 2024 for most controllers 4.
SDAIA, the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence, is the main regulator, and the law can reach foreign companies that process data about people living in Saudi Arabia 4. DLA Piper reported in February 2026 that SDAIA was actively enforcing it 4. Administrative fines can reach SAR 5 million per breach, and courts can double them for repeat offences. Where SDAIA must be notified, the deadline is 72 hours from becoming aware of the breach 4.
On marketing, the law and its Implementing Regulations set conditions for direct marketing. The legal summary we read does not spell out the consent rules, and it says consent is the main legal basis for processing 5. Ask a qualified Saudi lawyer before you email or message people from a bought list. This page is not legal advice.
How does Saudi Arabia differ from the worldwide picture?
The gap is language and trust, not technology. Google supplies almost all search referrals and AI use is lower than in the UAE, so much of the work is strong Arabic pages that Google already ranks. Compared with the UAE, which tops Microsoft's table at 73.3%, Saudi AI use is less than half as high 3. That makes classic Google visibility more valuable per page today.
Compare it with a neighbour. The UAE page covers a market where English prompts are common. In Saudi Arabia, assume Arabic prompts matter and test them first. The multiple-languages guide explains how to keep versions apart.
What has Chalk Labs actually done in Saudi Arabia?
Nothing we have published. Chalk Labs has no Saudi client case or result, and this page does not imply one. Our only published regional result is Meru Trophy, a trophy shop in Bengaluru, India, which reached 27,300 Google clicks and 2.3 million impressions in 16 months 12.
The Meru figure is Google clicks, not AI citations, and it comes from a Bengaluru shop competing in English. A Saudi Arabic-language market will behave differently, so we would test with ten Arabic prompts before promising anything. We do not guarantee rankings or citations.
Where should you start this month?
Start with access and identity, publish a few Arabic answer pages, then measure. Four weeks gives you one full loop.
- Week 1: confirm robots.txt allows OAI-SearchBot and Googlebot, and open your top pages on a phone.
- Week 2: make your business name, address, phone and hours identical on your site and Google Business Profile, in both languages.
- Week 3: publish five Arabic answer pages for your best-selling services, each opening with the answer in 40 to 75 words and naming the city and district. The answer block checker tests that opening.
- Week 4: add a plain Arabic privacy notice to every form, then run ten buyer prompts in Arabic and ten in English in ChatGPT and Google, and note the dates, brands named and domains cited.
- Afterwards, use the Countries tab of Search Console's Performance report to see Saudi clicks and impressions 13. Ask every new lead how they found you.
Rules and platforms that shape results
Rules to know
- Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL). Royal Decree M/19, amended by M/148. In effect since 14 September 2023 with a compliance deadline of 14 September 2024. SDAIA regulates it. Administrative fines can reach SAR 5 million per breach, and courts can double them for repeat offences. Where SDAIA must be notified, the deadline is 72 hours from becoming aware of the breach.4
- Direct marketing conditions. The PDPL and its Implementing Regulations set conditions for direct marketing. The secondary summary we read does not give the consent details, so take legal advice before messaging purchased lists.5
- Sector and advertising rules. Sector regulators such as the Saudi Central Bank and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission set their own rules inside their sectors. Check advertising and claims rules for your sector with a Saudi adviser before you publish.
Platforms that matter here
- Google Search and Google Maps
- Google Business Profile with Arabic and English names
- ChatGPT search (reads sites through OAI-SearchBot)
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
- Industry directories and review sites that rank in Arabic
- Your own social profiles, linked from the site
What works in Saudi Arabia
- Publish an Arabic page first for each service, then an English page only where English-speaking buyers are real.
- Give every language its own URL and link versions with hreflang, with no automatic redirect by browser language.
- Name the city and district in the page text in Arabic and English, as buyers search by city.
- Match your commercial name and address exactly across your site and Google Business Profile.
- Add a privacy notice in Arabic to every form and keep a record of consent.
Mistakes to avoid
- Putting Arabic text inside images, which crawlers cannot read.
- Machine-translating pages without a native Arabic reader checking them.
- Redirecting visitors by browser language so crawlers never see the Arabic pages.
- Buying contact lists and messaging them without a lawful basis under the PDPL.
- Assuming UAE-style English prompts carry over, without testing Arabic prompts.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Arabic pages to appear in ChatGPT in Saudi Arabia?
Not strictly, but Arabic pages serve Arabic prompts, which we expect to matter. No public data shows the language split of Saudi AI prompts, so write Arabic for local services and test both languages. Keep each page in one language and link versions with hreflang.
Does Google need a special tag to show my page in AI Overviews?
No. Google says there are no extra technical requirements: the page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. Fundamentals such as crawlable pages, clear text and structured data that matches the visible text still apply 7.
Does the PDPL apply to a small business website?
It applies to anyone processing personal data about people in Saudi Arabia, and it can reach foreign companies 4. A contact form collects personal data, so add a privacy notice and keep records. Ask a Saudi lawyer about your case.
How big is AI search use in Saudi Arabia?
Microsoft estimates 31.4% of people aged 15 to 64 used a generative AI product by June 2026, ranked 25th of the economies it tracks 3. That is a general measure, not a count of people asking AI for local providers, which we could not find.
Can Chalk Labs help a Saudi business?
We can apply the same method, but we have no published Saudi results. Our only regional proof is Meru Trophy in Bengaluru. We would start with a free proposal so you can judge the plan before paying anything.
