They use Google for nearly everything, and AI chat is an extra step on top. Statcounter recorded Google at 96.63% of Indian search referrals in September 2026, with Bing at 1.92% 1. These are clicks to sites, not searches, and the figure covers India, not Bengaluru 1.
A Google-commissioned Ipsos study of 2,450 Indian festive shoppers (September to November 2025) reported an average of 7.5 chatbot consultations, and Google says 94% of consumers who used AI chatbots for research also turned to Google Search (a different, smaller base) 12. Google paid for the study, and it is national, not Bengaluru.

What do Google AI search and ChatGPT need from a Bengaluru site?
They need a site they can reach and read, and no special markup. Google says a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet, with no extra requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode 4. OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot surfaces sites in ChatGPT search, and a robots.txt change can take around 24 hours 5.

Which languages and spellings should a Bengaluru site use?
Write in English first, and add Kannada for pages where your buyers use it. In the 2011 census, 42.05% of Bengaluru residents named Kannada as their mother tongue, 16.34% Tamil, 13.73% Telugu and 13.00% Urdu, with Hindi at 4.64% 6. Wikipedia adds that English is the principal business language 6.
Kannada is the official language of Karnataka, with about 40.6 million native speakers in the state 7. Google lists Kannada among the languages where both AI Overviews and AI Mode are available 23. We found no data on how often Bengaluru users type Kannada, Roman-script Kannada or mixed English to an AI assistant.
Spelling matters too. The city was officially renamed from Bangalore to Bengaluru on 1 November 2014 6. Buyers and businesses still use both, and Meru Trophy's own address line says Bangalore 9. Use the name your customers type in headings, and mention the other spelling once in the body.

Does Karnataka's Kannada signboard rule apply to your website?
The rule we found covers signboards, not websites. Wikipedia reports a 2024 Karnataka law requiring commercial establishments to display signboards with at least 60% Kannada text 7. Business groups challenged it, and the Karnataka High Court told the state not to seal establishments only for non-compliance while the case continues 7.
So we cannot tell you that a website needs Kannada. We can tell you that a Kannada page is a sensible local signal, because Google supports Kannada search features 2. Court positions can change, so check current rules with a Bengaluru lawyer before you reprint a shop sign. This is not legal advice.
For AI search, the practical point is consistency. If your shop sign, Business Profile and website all show the same name in the same script, assistants see one business, not three.
Which Bengaluru areas and addresses should your pages name?
Name the locality the way buyers do, then add one landmark. Wikipedia describes M G Road as the main road of the central business district and lists tech parks such as Electronic City, International Tech Park and Manyata Embassy Business Park 6. Buyers also search by areas such as Indiranagar, Koramangala and Whitefield.
The Meru Trophy site shows a clear address pattern: shop number, road, cross, floor, landmark, locality and PIN code, as in Gandhinagar, Bangalore 560 009 9. Copy that discipline: print the same line everywhere, down to the punctuation.
City governance is also changing. Wikipedia reports that in July 2025 the state notified five city corporations, Central, North, South, East and West, under a Greater Bengaluru Authority 6. Do not rewrite addresses around the new names until your customers use them.
Can a startup in a co-working space get a Google Business Profile?
Sometimes, but only if you follow Google's conditions. Google says a co-working office must have clear signage, receive customers during business hours and be staffed by your own staff during those hours 11. A rented virtual address does not qualify 11.
Many Bengaluru startups work from shared offices, so this trips up a lot of founders. If you fail the test, skip the profile and build trust in other ways: a detailed contact page, named team members, and mentions in directories and press. Do not invent an address.

Which Indian rules should Bengaluru businesses watch?

Chalk Labs ran an AI-SEO programme for Meru Trophy, a trophy and corporate-gift business in Gandhinagar, Bengaluru. Over 16 months the site reached 27,300 Google clicks and 2.3 million impressions, at an average position of 6.9, with page-one rankings for the search trophy shop in bengaluru 10. It took months, not days.
Here is what the result does not show. It counts Google clicks from Chalk Labs' own record, not ChatGPT or Perplexity citations, and it is not an independent audit 10. The business describes itself as making custom trophies, medals and corporate gifts 9. Its own site claims two-day delivery in Bengaluru and a Google review rating; we have not verified either.
What transfers is the method: research the searches buyers type, write an answer page for each, and measure in Search Console. Your timeline will differ, because it depends on competitors and your starting point. We do not guarantee rankings or citations.
What should a Bengaluru business publish first?
Publish one page per product or service plus the city, in the words buyers type. Meru Trophy's programme was built around local searches such as trophy shop in bengaluru, so research the searches in your own field first.
