AI SEO for Physiotherapy and Chiropractic: How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews

The short answer

A physio or chiropractic clinic gets recommended when AI tools can match a condition and a place to a named, licensed clinician with recent reviews. Publish one honest page per condition you treat, state credentials and what the evidence does and does not show, and keep your Google profile exact. This page is general information, not medical advice.

  • People search by condition and place, so condition pages are the core asset.
  • A 2017 ACP guideline recommends non-drug care first for acute or subacute back pain, but rates much of the evidence low to moderate. 1
  • Claims need evidence; testimonials and typical-result rules apply. 10
  • AI answers name few businesses: 4.1 in ChatGPT and 2.5 in AI Overviews on average. 5
  • Proximity is the leading factor for health searchers: 48% in a July 2026 US survey. 6
Why it matters in Physiotherapy and Chiropractic
  • Patients search by condition and place, which suits one page per condition.
  • Proximity leads for health searchers. 6
  • AI answers name few businesses, so a missing fact can cost the slot. 5
  • Health claims face evidence rules, so careful clinics can stand out. 10

What could new-patient bookings be worth?

What this adds up to

How it is worked out

  • Enquiries = visits × enquiry rate.
  • Customers = enquiries × close rate.
  • Revenue = customers × average customer value.
  • Revenue minus cost = revenue − monthly cost.
  • Return multiple = revenue ÷ monthly cost.
  • Visits to break even = monthly cost ÷ revenue per visit. Revenue per visit = enquiry rate × close rate × customer value.

What do AI engines look at for a condition query?

For local picks, mostly Google Business Profile and your own site. In BrightLocal's study of about 200,000 localised AI searches, profiles made up 28.5% of citations and business websites 42%. 5 A business that appeared once reappeared in about half of repeat runs. 5

For health topics, Google says trust is the most important part of E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trust) and gives extra weight to topics that can affect health. 2 Show a named clinician, licence, and a review date on every condition page.

What should a condition page say?

Open with who you help and how you usually assess them. Then cover what you do, what you do not, red flags that need a doctor, and what to expect at a first visit. Keep every claim to what you can support.

Use published guidance for context. The American College of Physicians' 2017 guideline recommends non-drug treatment first for acute or subacute low back pain, including superficial heat, massage, acupuncture or spinal manipulation, and non-drug options such as exercise, rehabilitation or CBT for chronic pain. 1 It rates the evidence for most of these as low to moderate quality, so it is not a promise of results for any patient, and it is nine years old.

Do not copy guideline wording. Link to the source, summarise it in your own words, and add what your clinic does.

Condition page outline (low back pain)
  • H1: Physiotherapy for low back pain in [Town]
  • First sentence: We assess and treat low back pain with [methods], seen by [clinician, licence].
  • Who it helps / who should see a doctor first (red flags).
  • What the first visit involves: [length], [what we ask], [what to wear].
  • What guidelines say: [one-sentence summary] with link to the guideline.
  • Cost and insurance: [fee range], [plans].
  • Reviewed by [name, licence] on [date].

What rules limit claims, photos and reviews?

The FTC's health-products guidance says claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence and testimonials do not replace it. 10 It covers products, but the principle is a sound standard for service claims too. Avoid words like 'cure' and avoid before-and-after claims without evidence.

The FTC rule effective 21 October 2024 bans fake reviews, incentives tied to positive sentiment, undisclosed insider reviews and review suppression. 11

If you are a HIPAA covered entity, HIPAA requires authorization before protected health information is used for marketing, with narrow exceptions. 12 Our reading: client stories and photos need written consent. Professional boards also regulate advertising, and we have not reviewed them, so check yours.

How should a clinic set up its Google profile?

Use the real name with nothing extra, exact hours and one consistent address. Google treats doctors as individual practitioners, bars unnecessary information in business names, and says a practitioner should not hold several profiles for different specialisations. 8 Whether your clinicians count as individual practitioners is our reading; check Google's rules.

Add LocalBusiness markup. Google requires name and address, recommends hours, phone and URL, and does not guarantee features will appear. 9 In BrightLocal's 2026 survey, 74% of consumers only weigh reviews from the last three months. 7

How can a clinic measure AI visibility?

Run ten condition-and-place prompts monthly on two AI tools, three runs each, and log whether you are named and described correctly. Repeat-run overlap was 21% to 33% in BrightLocal's study, so never judge from one run. 5

Add 'How did you hear about us?' to booking, with an AI option. Search Console reports AI Overviews and AI Mode clicks under the Web search type. 3 Count booked assessments, such as new-client bookings that mention AI, not visits.

What has Chalk Labs done in this field?

We have not published results for a physio or chiropractic clinic. What transfers is the method: query research, answer pages, technical readiness and measurement. Chalk Labs' own case notes report that Meru Trophy, a local shop in Bengaluru, reached 27,300 Google clicks and 2.3M impressions in 16 months. 13

That is local commerce measured in Google search figures, not AI citations. A clinic plan would start with clinician review and a check of every treatment claim against the evidence, since guideline support for manual therapies is limited.

Your first 90 days

Days 1-30

  • Write ten condition-and-place prompts; run each on two AI tools three times.
  • Fix the Google profile: name, hours, one profile per eligible practitioner. 8
  • List every claim on the site and ask a clinician to approve or remove it. 10
  • Add a 'how did you hear' field to booking.

Days 31-60

  • Publish pages for your top three conditions with clinician and review date.
  • Publish insurance, fees and first-visit pages.
  • Add LocalBusiness markup matching visible text. 9
  • Ask every client for a review, no sentiment-linked incentive. 11

Days 61-90

  • Publish three more condition pages and a clinician page.
  • Re-run the ten prompts and compare with day 1.
  • Correct wrong facts AI tools state at the source.
  • Review booked assessments by source.

The first pages to publish

  1. Low back pain physiotherapy. The seed prompt names it; the highest-volume condition for many clinics.
  2. Neck pain and headaches. A common companion condition with its own queries.
  3. Sports injury rehab. Separate audience and prompts.
  4. Post-surgery rehabilitation. Referral-driven; needs clear process.
  5. Chiropractic care: what to expect. Explains methods and limits in plain words.
  6. Clinician profiles. Shows licensed people behind the care. 2
  7. Fees, insurance and referrals. Answers the common cost and access questions.
  8. First visit guide. Sets expectations and reduces drop-off.

  • Plain statements of red flags and when to see a doctor.

What can go wrong

  • Cure or promised-result language. 10

  • Fake or gated reviews. 11
  • Using client photos or stories without consent. 12
  • Inconsistent profiles across clinicians. 8

Frequently asked questions

Can I say physiotherapy or chiropractic cures back pain?

No. Health claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence, and testimonials do not replace it. 10 Describe what you do and what guidelines say, such as the 2017 ACP guideline's first-line options. 1 Never promise outcomes.

Should I make separate pages for each condition?

Yes, for conditions you actually treat, each reviewed by a clinician. Google warns against pages created mainly to manipulate results, so avoid thin near-duplicates. 2 Start with three and expand.

Do reviews matter for AI recommendations?

They shape choice: 74% of consumers only consider reviews from the last three months. 7 We found no study proving reviews drive AI picks for physio clinics. Collect genuine reviews under the FTC rule. 11

What if my profession is called something else locally?

Use both terms where readers use both, for example physiotherapist and physical therapist, and name your exact licence. That is our editorial advice, not a rule. Test both phrasings in your prompts.

Do I need schema markup?

Not to appear in AI Overviews; Google says no special schema is required. 3 LocalBusiness markup with correct hours is still sensible if it matches visible text. 9
