AI SEO for Cleaning Services
Cleaning companies get recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews when AI can verify who they are and see clear, specific answers on trust and price. Publish exactly what your background check covers, a pricing page, what each visit includes, and an honest safety page. Keep your Business Profile exact, earn real reviews, and measure over months, because answers vary.
- Trust is the buying question: say what your staff screening covers and what it does not, in plain words.
- Websites supplied 42% and Business Profiles 28.5% of local AI citations, and you control both. 1
- Unclear pricing was cited by 32% of consumers who chose not to contact a business. 11
- Safety words like 'non-toxic' need competent scientific evidence behind them. 9
- Chalk Labs has no published cleaning results; its proof comes from a Bengaluru trophy shop and a personal-brand site. 13
How do people ask AI to find a house cleaner?
They ask for trust first and price second. A prompt like 'best house cleaning service near me with background-checked staff' tells you the buyer is about to let strangers into their home. The question is not 'who cleans well' but 'who is safe'.
Most local searches still start on Google. In one BrightLocal survey of 1,227 US consumers, 52% began there and 23% used AI tools at some point. 3 Another survey of 1,002 adults found 45% use generative AI for local recommendations. 2 We found no cleaning-specific adoption figure, so treat these as general local numbers.
- Buyers pick from a short list: ChatGPT names about four local businesses per answer. 1
- Trust is the main hurdle, because customers let staff into their homes.
- Your site and Business Profile supply most local AI citations. 1
- Missing or incorrect information put off 20% of consumers who chose not to contact a business. 11
What do AI engines look at when they pick a cleaning company?
They lean on your website and your Google Business Profile. In a study of about 200,000 local AI searches, websites made up 42% of citations and Business Profiles 28.5%. 1 ChatGPT named 4.1 businesses per answer on average, and AI Overviews named 2.5. 1
Cleaning buyers are cautious. Of consumers who decided not to contact a business, 33% cited negative reviews, 32% unclear pricing and 20% missing or incorrect information. 11 Each of those is a page or listing you can fix.
| Worry | What to publish | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Can I trust the person at my door? | A screening page: what is checked, by whom, how often | Our reasoning (no study cited) |
| What will it cost? | Price by home size and frequency, and what changes it | 32% cited unclear pricing as a reason not to contact 11 |
| What exactly is cleaned? | A checklist per visit type: standard, deep, move-out | 20% cited missing or incorrect information as a reason not to contact 11 |
| Are the products safe? | Product names, labels and what you can support | Safety claims need competent evidence 9 |
| Do others recommend you? | Recent reviews with replies | 47% will not use a business with under 20 reviews 2 |
How should you describe background checks on your website?
Describe exactly what you do, and nothing more. 'Background-checked' can mean many things: a criminal records search, an identity check, a reference call. Say which checks you run, who runs them, how far back they look and how often you repeat them.
Also say what a check cannot tell a customer. A clean record is not a guarantee of future behaviour, and we do not guarantee any outcome. Honest limits read as more trustworthy than a sweeping promise.
Know the employer rules before you publish. The FTC says an employer using a report from a background-check company must give a stand-alone written notice, get written permission, and follow set steps before and after any adverse action. 8 This page is not legal advice, so ask a lawyer to check your process and your wording.
- Question: Are your cleaners background-checked?
- Answer: Every cleaner passes [the exact checks you run, e.g. identity verification and a criminal records search by (provider name)] before their first visit.
- What it covers: [years or jurisdictions covered].
- What it does not: it does not predict future behaviour, and we repeat the check every [interval].
- Employment: cleaners are our [employees or contractors]. Last reviewed: [date].
Should a cleaning company publish prices?
Yes, at least ranges and the factors behind them. Unclear pricing or no offers was cited by 32% of consumers who decided not to contact a business. 11 A page that says what moves the price answers the question that AI is often asked: 'how much does a house cleaner cost?'
Show the factors in plain terms: home size, number of bathrooms, pets, visit frequency, first-visit deep cleans and extras. Give a range from your own recent jobs, dated, and say it is a guide not a quote. Where you cannot publish a range, explain how you quote and how long it takes.
Why do repeat clients and reviews matter more than a one-off price for cleaners?
Because cleaning is usually booked again and again, so a client who trusts you is worth far more than a single job. A review that mentions the same cleaner coming back for months says more than a low first-visit price. Ask recurring clients for reviews and reply to every one.
Reviews decide the shortlist: 47% would not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews, 68% wanted at least four stars and 74% wanted reviews from the last three months. 2 Service-area businesses were named in 29.4% of checks against 33.6% for storefronts, so also hide your address and name the areas you cover. 15
Follow the rules. Google bans rewards for reviews and selective asking. 6 The FTC reviews rule took effect on 21 October 2024 and lets courts impose civil penalties for knowing violations. 7
Which product and safety claims can a cleaning company make?
Only claims you can support. The FTC says health and safety claims generally need competent and reliable scientific evidence, and that satisfied-customer letters usually do not count. 10 For environmental wording, it says broad claims like 'green' or 'eco-friendly' are difficult to substantiate, and that non-toxic claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence. 9
So avoid 'safe for kids and pets' unless you can point to evidence for the specific product. Name the products you use, link to their labels and say what you do for households with allergies. Short and specific beats sweeping.
What should a cleaning company publish first?
Start with the screening page, then the pricing page, then a page for each visit type. These answer the seed prompt and its closest follow-ups. Put the answer in the first two sentences of each page.
Say plainly what 'bonded' and 'insured' cover for your business and what proof a customer can ask for; rules vary by state.
Add a Google Verified profile if you run Local Services Ads: Google says new advertisers must complete its screening and verification to earn the badge, though its page does not list the checks. 12 Pages must be indexed and snippet-eligible, and no special markup is required. 4
Use real questions from calls. Our guide on turning customer calls into answer pages shows how, and the local business guide covers the Business Profile.
- How we screen our cleaners, with limits stated.
- House cleaning prices: what changes the quote.
- What a standard, deep and move-out clean includes.
- Products we use, with labels.
- One real page per town, with local detail.
How do you measure whether AI is sending cleaning customers?
Track recurring clients, not only new bookings. Note how many first-time customers become weekly or fortnightly clients, because AI traffic that books one deep clean and never returns is worth less than it looks.
Log your buyer prompts monthly, three runs each on two engines, and note who is named. Google reports AI Overviews and AI Mode traffic under the Web search type in Search Console. 4 Bookings often arrive by text or call, so ask 'How did you find us?' every time. Our guide to self-reported attribution has wording that works.
What have Chalk Labs and Rahil Jain done in this field, and what have they not?
We have not published results for a cleaning company, and nothing here comes from a cleaning client.
What transfers is the method. Chalk Labs reports that a Bengaluru trophy shop went from near-zero search visibility to 27.3k clicks over 16 months, using an AI SEO programme aimed at high-intent local searches. 13 That is retail, not cleaning, and the figures are Chalk Labs' own account. We do not guarantee rankings or citations.
Your first 90 days
Days 1-30
- Run six buyer prompts on two AI engines, three runs each, and save the log.
- Write down exactly what your screening process covers and have a lawyer review it.
- Fix the Business Profile: real name, hidden address, exact categories.
- Add 'How did you find us?' to your booking form and call script, and tag which clients are recurring.
Days 31-60
- Publish the screening page and the pricing page.
- Publish pages for standard, deep and move-out cleans.
- Ask finished-job customers for reviews, with no reward.
Days 61-90
- Publish the products and safety page, with labels.
- Publish three town pages with local detail.
- Rerun the prompt log, compare with day one and plan the next quarter.
The first pages to publish
- How we screen our cleaners. It answers the seed prompt's trust question with stated limits.
- House cleaning prices: what changes the quote. Clear price factors address a common reason buyers walk away.
- Standard, deep and move-out cleans compared. A comparison table is easy for AI to quote.
- What is included in each visit. A checklist removes doubt about scope.
- Products we use and why. Named products with labels beat broad safety claims.
- Recurring plans versus one-off cleans. Helps buyers choose frequency and price.
- Insurance, bonding and employment. States who works for you and what is covered.
- One real page per town served. Distance matters in local picks, so each town needs real detail.

Results we can show
These are Chalk Labs' own search results. They are not a forecast for your site: results depend on your market, competition and starting point.
How to read these numbers
Chalk Labs reports them from Google Search Console data. We cannot publish the raw console. The shilikajain.com site belongs to Shilika Jain, a Chalk Labs co-founder, so treat it as a demonstration on our own network and not as an independent client result. Meru Trophy is a client of Chalk Labs.
Frequently asked questions
Can a cleaning company get recommended by ChatGPT?
It can be named, but nobody controls that. ChatGPT named about four businesses per local answer in one large study. 1 Publish clear trust and pricing pages, keep your Business Profile exact and earn honest reviews, then measure over months.
What should I say about background checks on my website?
Say exactly which checks you run, who runs them and how often, and state their limits. The FTC lists notice and consent steps for employers using background reports. 8 Have a lawyer review your process and your wording.
Should I publish my cleaning prices?
Publish at least ranges and the factors behind them. Unclear pricing was cited by 32% of consumers who decided not to contact a business. 11 Date the range and say it is a guide, not a quote.
Can I say my products are non-toxic or safe for pets?
Does Chalk Labs have cleaning clients?
No cleaning results are published. Chalk Labs' proof comes from a Bengaluru trophy shop and a personal-brand site. 13 The method transfers, but we do not claim cleaning experience.
