Books we made for fictional families

The Kulkarnis Go South: Munnar to Alleppey

For Aaji and Ajoba in Pune, from Shruti, Anand, Tanmay and Mihika. A fictional family.

  1. A family of four stands on a misty tea estate path in Munnar, the children in front, green tea bushes rolling into the hills behind them.
  2. Tanmay and Mihika run ahead between rows of tea bushes while their parents follow, laughing, on a misty hillside.
  3. The family eats lunch on banana leaves at a wooden table on the open deck of a houseboat, with backwaters and coconut palms behind them.
  4. Tanmay holds the large wooden wheel of the houseboat with both hands, beaming, while an older boatman beside him keeps a hand near the wheel.

  2. Harpreet points down a colourful Goan lane, reading from her phone, while the other three friends lag behind holding cold drinks.

  4. The four friends laugh around a table at a beach shack at night, under string lights, with plates of fish curry rice and prawn fry.

Who it is for
  • The family holiday planner. You came home with 800 photos across three phones, and the kids keep asking to see the houseboat again. Pick the trip, and we make the book, with a copy for the grandparents.
  • Newly married couples. The wedding has its album. The honeymoon is still sitting on two phones. Make the book now, or keep it for your first anniversary.
  • Grown-up children who took their parents on a yatra. Char Dham, Vaishno Devi, Kashi or Tirupati, in large print with Hindi or English captions and a blessing page. A book your parents can show every visitor.
  • First-time passport holders. The first flight, the first stamp, the first time the family saw a city abroad. A trip that feels too big to leave on a phone.
  • NRI families home for the winter. Nani's house, the family wedding and the street food, with captions in English and Hindi so the kids can read it back home.
Styles and occasions
  • **Travel journal**: kraft paper, ticket-stub frames, washi-tape corners and handwritten-style captions.
  • **Coffee-table minimal**: lots of white space, large photos and serif titles. Our pick for honeymoons.
  • **Postcards and stamps**: postage-stamp frames and postmarks with the place and date.
  • **Instant-photo dump**: tilted white-border photo frames and doodles, made for gang trips.
  • **Map-led itinerary**: an illustrated route map opens each chapter. Drawn from your stops, so it is a sketch, not a GPS map.
  • **Yatra**: marigold and diya motifs in saffron and maroon, with large type and no generated images of deities.
After the summer holiday, May to Jul
School is about to start and the photos are still fresh. A family holiday book, with a large-print copy for the grandparents.
After the honeymoon, Dec to Mar and May to Jul
A few weeks after a winter or summer wedding. Make it now, or keep it to give on the first anniversary.
Diwali, Christmas and New Year trips, Jan to Feb
Ordered once everyone is home, including December desh visits for families who live abroad.
After the yatra season
Char Dham usually opens around May and closes around Oct or Nov, and Vaishno Devi is busiest around Navratri, though dates change each year. A book for parents, made once they are home and rested.
Monsoon and long weekends, Jul to Sep
Lonavala, Coorg or Udaipur in two or three days. A small book for a short trip.
Year end, Dec to Jan
Every trip of the year in one travel journal, one chapter per trip.

Questions parents ask

Is it really free?

Making the book and saving the PDF is free. Printing is optional and paid, and we confirm the price and delivery date by email before you pay.

What happens to my photos?

Photo books are laid out on your device and the photos never leave it. For illustrated books, up to three photos are used once to draw the character and then deleted. See privacy.

Will the book look as good as the trip did?

It is a book of your own photos. We fix light and colour gently and never change faces. If a photo is too small to print sharp, we put it in a smaller spot or tell you before you order. Most trips fit in 24 to 40 pages, and you can add pages in sets of four.

My photos don't show where they were taken. How will you know the places?

Many photos lose their location on the way from a phone, and that is fine. You tell us where you went in order, like Goa to Gokarna, and we match each day to a stop and suggest place names from the photos. You confirm every place name in the preview. If we are unsure, the chapter says "Day 3" until you tell us.

Can the captions be in Hindi, in large print for my parents?

Yes. Captions can be in English, Hindi (in Devanagari) or Hinglish, and you can ask for any caption to be rewritten in another of them. Yatra and trip-with-parents books can use large print with fewer photos per page. More languages are coming later.

Ready to make yours?

Free to make. You see every page before you save it.
