For Ammi (Shabana Rizvi), from Faraz, Zoya and Abbu (Imtiaz), Lucknow, with wishes from her three sisters. A fictional family.

  2. A faded 1990s colour photo of young Shabana in a school chemistry lab, pouring liquid into a test tube while three schoolgirls watch.
  3. A 2000s photo of Shabana at a dining table checking a pile of notebooks with a red pen while her two children do homework beside her.
  4. Shabana laughing at a family dinner table at home, with her husband and grown-up son and daughter raising glasses of rose sherbet.

Page by page
  1. Cover

Their name as the family says it, the years of service and a photo you choose, recent or from their first job. You get three cover options, such as Papa Retires: 34 Years, 6 Cities, 1 Family.

  2. Who they are to us

A short opening story written from your answers: what they are known for at home, and the one place, one dish and one song that are totally them. Songs appear as titles only. You read and confirm this page first.

  3. The working years

  4. Home in every town

The houses, quarters and neighbourhoods the family lived in along the way, with the children growing up in each one. Captions name the town and the years, from what you tell us.

  5. Wishes from the family

  6. The last day and the party

  7. What comes next

The plans they have talked about, such as travel, time with the grandchildren, the garden or a long-promised yatra, and the family's wishes for this new chapter.

  8. A letter from the children

The questions we ask
  1. Who is retiring, and what does the family call them? (tap: Papa, Mummy, Appa, Amma, Baba, Pitaji, or type your own, then add the full name for the cover)
  2. Where did they work, for how many years, and when is the last working day? Add the towns or postings if they moved
  3. What was their first job or first big achievement?
  4. In one line, what are they known for in the family?
  5. Name one place, one dish and one song that are totally them
  6. What will they do now? (tap any: travel, grandchildren, garden, music, seva, start something new, or type your own)
  7. What do you want to say to them on this day?
  8. Caption language and tone (tap: English, Hindi or Hinglish; emotional, fun or formal)
Best for and styles
  • Children planning a family dinner or party for a parent's last working day
  • Siblings in different cities or abroad who want to give one gift together
  • A parent retiring from a bank, school, government office, the forces or a private company after many years
  • Families with old prints from early postings that nobody has looked at in years
  • Classic album: ivory pages, serif names and photos in the order of the years. The safest choice for elders
  • Tribute magazine: a cover story, a contents page and a question and answer page built from your answers, such as **The Bhatia Times: Retirement Special**
  • Retro decades: chapter openers in the look of the decade they started work, from the 1980s and 1990s
  • Minimal modern: big photos, white space and small captions
  • Illustrated cover: a soft illustrated portrait on the cover only, from a recent photo, while every page inside stays real photographs

Questions parents ask

Is it really free?

Making the book and saving the PDF is free. Printing is optional and paid, and we confirm the price and delivery date by email before you pay.

What happens to my photos?

Photo books are laid out on your device and the photos never leave it. For illustrated books, up to three photos are used once to draw the character and then deleted. See privacy.

His office is also planning a farewell. Is this the same book?

No. This is the family's book, made by the children or a spouse. An old colleague or family friend can still add a wish through your link. If his team at work is organising the gift, the colleague retirement book is made for that.

Will the printed book reach us before the last working day?

Before you confirm, we show an arrives by date for each print format, based on your pincode. If a print cannot arrive in time, we tell you before you pay. The digital book is ready to share on the day either way, including on a TV or screen at the party.
