Valentine week list 2027: Rose Day to Valentine's Day, with dates and a free idea for each day
Valentine week always runs from 7 to 14 February. In 2027 it starts on Sunday 7 February with Rose Day, followed by Propose Day (Monday 8), Chocolate Day (Tuesday 9), Teddy Day (Wednesday 10), Promise Day (Thursday 11), Hug Day (Friday 12) and Kiss Day (Saturday 13), and ends with Valentine's Day on Sunday 14 February. The dates never change; only the weekdays move each year.
- The order is fixed every year: Rose, Propose, Chocolate, Teddy, Promise, Hug and Kiss Day from 7 to 13 February, then Valentine's Day on the 14th. 4
- In 2027 the week starts and ends on a Sunday, so Hug Day and Kiss Day fall on Friday and Saturday, and Valentine's Day is a free Sunday for most people.
- Valentine week is an informal, modern calendar. It is not an official or religious observance, and couples are free to mark one day or all eight.
- Valentine's Day itself is named after an early Christian martyr, but its link with romantic love is first recorded in Chaucer's poetry in the late 1300s. 1 2
- Every day can be marked well without spending anything: a note, a plan, a voice message or simply time without phones.

What Valentine week is, and what it is not
Valentine week is an informal calendar of seven themed days that lead up to 14 February. You will see it in Indian newspapers, college corridors and shop windows every year. The themes are widely shared: roses on the 7th, a proposal on the 8th, chocolates on the 9th, a soft toy on the 10th, promises on the 11th, then hugs and kisses before Valentine's Day itself. 4
It is not a festival with fixed rituals, and nobody is keeping score. Many couples mark only Propose Day and Valentine's Day. Others treat the whole week as a slow countdown. Some families are comfortable with it and some are not, and plenty of couples keep it entirely private. Do what feels right for your relationship.
A quick note on 2027: because 7 February is a Sunday, the week lines up neatly with a working week. Weekday ideas should be short enough to fit around office or college, and the weekend at the end gives you room for something slower.
Where Valentine's Day comes from
Valentine's Day takes its name from Saint Valentine, but historians are not sure which one. Early church records mention at least three martyrs called Valentine from the third century, including a priest in Rome and a bishop of Terni. 1 3 A popular legend says one of them secretly married young couples against the emperor's wishes, though none of the early accounts of these saints has a romantic focus. 1 2
February 14 became St. Valentine's feast day by the late fifth century, and a Roman festival called Lupercalia, held in mid-February, is often mentioned alongside it. 1 The romantic meaning came much later. The earliest known text tying the day to love is Geoffrey Chaucer's poem Parliament of Fowls, written around the 1380s, in which birds gather on St. Valentine's Day to choose their mates. 1 2 Other poets of the same period picked up the idea, and by 1415 a French duke imprisoned in London was writing verses to his wife as his valentine. 3
Handwritten notes slowly gave way to printed cards, and the day spread around the world. 1 The seven themed days before it are a much more recent addition, shaped largely by popular culture and gifting.
Rose Day to Teddy Day: 7 to 10 February
Rose Day, Sunday 7 February. Roses stand for affection, and many people still pick red for love and yellow for friendship. You do not need a florist. Draw a single rose on a plain card, even badly, and write one line under it. Something like: "Seven days, seven reasons. Here is the first: you make ordinary Sundays feel like a holiday." A drawn rose lasts longer than a real one, and they will probably keep it.
Propose Day, Monday 8 February. For new couples this is the day to say what you feel. If you are already together or married, propose something else: a plan. Ask, "Will you take one long walk with me on the first Sunday of every month this year?" or "Will you let me cook for you every Friday, even though we both know how that might go?" A small, specific promise of time often means more than a big speech.
Chocolate Day, Tuesday 9 February. The theme is sweetness, so share some that is already yours. Scroll back through your chats and pick five of the sweetest things your partner has said to you. Write them on a paper folded like a chocolate wrapper, or send them one by one through the day. A message to go with it: "You asked for something sweet. These are the sweetest things anyone has ever said to me, and you said all of them."
Teddy Day, Wednesday 10 February. A teddy is meant to keep someone company when you cannot. Give them company in your voice instead. Record a two-minute voice note for them to play at bedtime: tell them about your day, a memory from when you first met, or simply read them something you love. If you live together, give them your oldest, softest t-shirt and tell them it is now officially on loan forever.
Promise Day to Valentine's Day: 11 to 14 February
Promise Day, Thursday 11 February. Big promises are easy to make and hard to keep. Write three small ones instead, the kind you can actually do this month: "I will put my phone away at dinner." "I will call your mother back the same day." "I will stop finishing the last bit of the pickle." Sign and date the note. Next Promise Day, read it together and see how you did.
Hug Day, Friday 12 February. Leave both phones in another room and hold each other for a full minute without talking. It feels long at first, then it doesn't. If you are apart, describe the hug you are saving for them in a message: where you will be standing, what you will say first. Something like: "First thing when I see you at the gate, I am not letting go until the auto driver gets impatient."
Kiss Day, Saturday 13 February. Keep this one as private and gentle as your relationship is. A note on the bathroom mirror or tucked into their laptop bag works well: "For the forehead you will be frowning with on Monday morning. Saving one for you here." Respect each other's comfort, and remember that affection does not have to be public to count.
Valentine's Day, Sunday 14 February. With a free Sunday, plan something slow. Walk to the place where you first met, the café where you had your first proper conversation, or the bench outside the college library. Then write a short letter called "Our year in seven moments", one moment for each day of the week you have just shared. Read it aloud there, or leave it for them to find that night.
If you are apart this Valentine week
Long-distance couples, whether Pune and Dubai or Kochi and Kolkata, can still share every day of the week. A few things help:
- Agree on one time slot each evening for a short call, and keep it even when you are tired.
- Send one photo a day from the week you first met, with a line about what you remember.
- Write seven short letters before the week begins and ask your partner to open one each morning.
- On Valentine's Day, watch the same film at the same time and keep a call running in the background.
- Mind the time difference: if you are a few hours apart, send messages so they arrive in the morning, not at 3 a.m.
Turning the week into something you keep
The notes, voice messages and small promises from Valentine week tend to get lost in phones and drawers by March. If you want to hold on to them, keep a simple record as you go: a photo of each day's note, a screenshot of the sweetest message, one picture of the two of you. By 14 February you will have a small story of the week, in your own words.
If you would like that story as a book without any design work, Chalk Art has a Valentine week book: seven short chapters from Rose Day to Kiss Day, ending on Valentine's Day, made from your photos and a few short answers. For a book of your own reasons instead, see Reasons I love you on Chalk Art.

No. It is an informal, modern calendar of themed days. Valentine's Day itself is named after an early Christian martyr, but its romantic meaning comes from medieval poetry, and the seven days before it are a much later popular tradition.
Who was Saint Valentine?
Historians are not certain. Church records mention at least three third-century martyrs named Valentine, including a priest in Rome and a bishop of Terni. Legends about secret weddings are popular, but the early accounts of their lives have no romantic focus.

Pick one small gesture a day: a drawn rose with a note, a proposed plan for the year, a list of their sweetest messages, a bedtime voice note, three written promises, a phone-free hug, a note on the mirror and a walk to a place that matters to you both.
Do we have to celebrate all eight days?
Not at all. Many couples mark only Propose Day and Valentine's Day, and some keep the whole week private. Choose the days that feel natural for your relationship.
