Class 12 farewell speech in Hindi and English for juniors, seniors and teachers
A good Class 12 farewell speech is short, specific and kind. Speak for two to three minutes, about 250 to 400 words. Greet the room, say why you are all there, share one real memory, thank people and wish the seniors well for their boards, then end on one line people will remember. Below are original speeches you can adapt: a junior welcoming seniors and a senior saying goodbye, each in English and Hindi, a class teacher's speech, and short lines to borrow.
- Students should aim for two to three minutes; teachers can take three or four.
- Use five parts: greeting, why we are here, one memory, thanks and wishes, a closing line.
- One specific memory from your own class does more than ten general compliments.
- Write short sentences for the ear and repeat your key line at the end.
- Practise aloud with a timer, and keep every joke kind.
A simple structure and how long to speak
Every farewell speech can follow five steps: a greeting, one line on why everyone is here, one specific memory, thanks and wishes, and a closing line. The memory carries it. "You helped us" is forgettable. "You showed us the shortcut to the chemistry lab" is not.
A speech is heard only once, so write for the ear: short sentences, names instead of unclear pronouns, and your key phrase repeated near the end 1. Everyday English runs at about 150 words a minute 2; on stage, with nerves and applause, plan for nearer 130.
Mind the calendar. In 2026, CBSE Class 12 papers ran from 17 February to 9 April 3, so many farewells fall in late January or early February, when seniors are anxious. Keep it short and warm, and check your board's current date sheet before planning.
| Who speaks | Aim for | Rough word count | What to cover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior welcoming seniors | 2 to 3 minutes | 250 to 400 | Welcome, one shared memory, thanks, wishes for boards |
| Senior saying goodbye | 2 to 3 minutes | 250 to 400 | Thanks to teachers, juniors and parents, one memory, a promise |
| Class teacher | 3 to 4 minutes | 400 to 500 | Pride, one story about the class, simple advice, a blessing |
| Anchor link before an item | 20 to 30 seconds | 45 to 65 | Who is next and one warm line about them |
Farewell speech for seniors by juniors (English)
Change names, class and memories to your own. Words in brackets are placeholders.
Good evening, respected Principal ma'am, our teachers, and our dear seniors of Class 12.
Tonight we, the students of Class 11, have one job: to say thank you, and to give you a proper goodbye.
When we moved into the senior wing, we did not know which staircase reached the lab before the bell. You showed us. You lent us notes, cheered for our house on sports day and told us not to panic before unit tests. You made this school feel like ours.
In a few weeks your boards begin. We wish you calm mornings, full sleep and easy papers. Then come new colleges and new cities. Go far, but come back one day and tell us what it is like out there.
Dear seniors, this evening is yours. Thank you for everything. Let the farewell begin.
Juniors ki taraf se farewell speech (Hindi)
Farewell speech by a Class 12 student (English)
Good evening to our Principal sir, our teachers, the parents here tonight, and our juniors who planned all of this.
Years ago, many of us walked through that gate with a water bottle almost as big as we were. Tonight we walk out with admit cards. In between, this school taught us far more than the syllabus.
To our teachers: thank you for the extra classes, the second chances and the red ink. To our juniors: thank you for tonight, and look after the school. To our parents: thank you for the early mornings and the late-night tea.
And to my classmates, the toppers, the last-benchers, the quiet ones and the loud ones: let's keep the group chat for more than birthday wishes, and let's actually meet.
We came here as children. We leave as friends. Thank you, and goodbye for now.
Farewell speech by the class teacher
A teacher can be more personal. Name small moments, not ranks or marks, so no student feels left out.
Good evening, everyone. My dear Class 12 (B), I have three minutes. You know I always run over in class, so I will try.
Two years ago you walked into this room as forty separate people. Some of you sat at the back hoping I would not notice. I noticed. Today you are one class. You share notes, cover for each other and forget your ID cards on the same day.
I will remember small things. (Meghna) staying back to explain organic chemistry to a friend. (Farhan) fixing the projector when nobody else could. The week (Tenzin) hurt his ankle and the whole class carried his bag without being asked. That kindness is what I will tell next year's class about.
For the boards: sleep, eat, revise, and do not compare answers in the corridor. If you stumble later, call me. My number has not changed. I am proud of you.
To close in Hindi: मुझे तुम सब पर गर्व है। जहाँ भी जाओ, अच्छे इंसान बनकर रहना। इस कमरे में तुम्हारी जगह हमेशा रहेगी।
Short farewell lines to borrow
Use these to open or close a speech, as an anchor's link between items, or on a card. They are original, so use them freely.
- "You showed us where the labs were. Now go and find where you belong."
- "We came as classmates. We leave as family."
- "Exams have an end date. This friendship does not."
(Aap ja rahe hain, par aapki hansi in galiyaron mein rahegi): you are leaving, but your laughter stays in these corridors.
(Kitaabein badlengi, shehar badlenge, par yeh dosti nahin badlegi): books and cities will change, this friendship will not.
(Paper aasaan hon, aur aage ki raah usse bhi aasaan): may the papers be easy, and the road ahead easier still.
Tips for writing and delivering it
Read the draft aloud to a friend with a timer running. Ask where they lost interest and whether you stayed within time, then cut that part 1. Do this at least twice before the day.
- Print it, do not scroll it. A large-font printout is easier to read under stage lights than a phone.
- Typing Hindi on your phone: on Android, add a Hindi keyboard in Gboard settings and switch languages by touching and holding the space bar 4.
- Keep jokes kind. If a line would embarrass someone in front of their parents, drop it.
- Show the final draft to your class teacher a day or two before, especially if you name other students.
Keeping the speeches after the day
The speeches end when the mic goes off, but the words can last on paper. Many classes collect a message from every student, along with the speeches and photos, and keep them together.
If your class wants that as a book, Chalk Art has a Class 12 farewell book: one no-login share link for the class, a consent notice for every contributor, a parent's approval before an under-18 student's page appears, an organiser who moderates, and a remove-me link for anyone who changes their mind.
Questions
How long should a Class 12 farewell speech be?
For a student, two to three minutes, roughly 250 to 400 words. A class teacher can take three or four minutes. If there are many speakers, ask the anchor how much time you have and write to that.
Should I give my farewell speech in Hindi or English?
Use the language most of the room is comfortable with and the one you speak naturally. Many schools mix both: an English speech that closes with one Hindi line works well, and so does the reverse.
How do I start a farewell speech for seniors?
Greet the principal, teachers and seniors, then say in one line why everyone is there, for example "Tonight we have one job: to say thank you." Move quickly to a specific memory instead of a long list of compliments.
Can I use shayari in a farewell speech?
Yes, one or two short lines can lift a speech, but name the poet if the lines are not yours. Writing your own simple Hindi line, like the ones above, avoids that and sounds more personal.
